2010 Soccerex Global Convention took place in the ‘Marvellous City’ of Rio de Janeiro for the first time. Whilst attendee numbers are still being processed early indications show that Rio’s spectacular views played host to over 3,500 key decision makers from the football business industry in the first of four annual events to be hosted by the city in the build-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The Convention kicked off on the white sands of Copacabana beach with legends of the game taking part in the Soccerex Football Festival, with the Brazilian legends team beating the Dutch in the final to take home the trophy. The two-day event saw players such as Ruud Gullit, Denílson, Jorginho and Romario in attendance.
At the conference itself delegates were treated to world-renowned speakers such as João Havelange, Danny Jordaan and David Dein as well as visits from the young Brazilian prodigy Neymar and the World Cup Winning Captain, Cafu.
The event also included an exclusive evening on Sugar Loaf Mountain with fabulous views over Guanabara Bay, the evening saw the Brazilian 1970 World Cup winning team honoured in the presence of the Jules Rimet trophy.
Early indications are that the event was a huge business success with our independent researchers finding that nine out of ten delegates had their business objectives met and two thirds expecting to generate serious business from their attendance.
Details of the Soccerex Global Convention 2011, 26-30 November, Rio de Janeiro, will follow shortly.
